Teaching is an adventure.  That is the only definition that works for me at this moment in my life. It's a way of moving from one encounter to another, one experience to the next, idea to idea, in a community of the curious. I do it novel by novel, book to book, changing the curriculum pretty much every semester. Stir in a bit of transgression, a taste of activism, a touch of whimsy, and lots of joy and you have my teaching philosophy.

Encounters. Adventures. Transgressions. Joy.
